Star Rollovers

A type of Rollovers with a star-shaped switch embedded flush with the playfield surface, scored when the ball rolls over it. The switch consists of a small metal star whose points flex downward under the ball’s weight to close a contact. Star rollovers are typically arranged in lanes — particularly inlanes and outlanes — where they register the ball’s passage and advance lane-change sequences or light bonus multipliers. They first appeared in the late 1960s and became ubiquitous on Electromechanical and Solid State machines, providing a low-profile scoring mechanism that does not obstruct the ball’s path.
